What is a sock-a-thon?

Christmas Season Sock-a-Thon

As the Christmas approaches our class will be collecting socks for the month of December for the following 3 purposes:

1.       Give challenge: Our class will be collecting new, cozy socks or slippers to donate to Cythera House. Socks can be of any variety and any size but must me new.

2.    Christmas sock gift exchange: Buy a pair of new Crazy Christmas socks and wrap anonymously for students to do in-class gift exchange amongst each other during the last week of school.

3.    Christmas craft: White tube socks (new or gently used) are needed for a Christmas craft students will be making during the last week of school before the break.

All of these items are to be contributed by donation, however students will be encouraged to earn their donations at home by being helping out with household chores, etc. Please bring in your donations by Friday, December 9^th.

WELCOME BACK!!!

I am super excited about the year ahead and looking forward to reconnecting with many families from the previous school year, as well as meeting and getting to know all of the new faces. Included in this newsletter is some helpful information for the beginning of the year, however the majority of the classroom communication throughout the year will be via the student planner, email or posted on our class website: http://mmehomeniuk.blogspot.ca . 

Arrival and Dismissal

All students will be welcomed and dismissed each day at the outside door of our classroom. All students are encouraged to arrive on time for 8:30 a.m. Attendance is sent electronically to the office at 8:40 a.m. and any student arriving to school after this time will need to go to the office to check in and receive a late slip. 

Nut Allergy

Along with this newsletter, students will be sent home with a letter regarding FOOD ALLERGIES, please read this letter carefully and return the bottom portion to acknowledge that you are aware that there is a LIFE_THREATENING PEANUT ALLERGY in our class. Please be respectful of the severity of this allergy and ensure that all food items sent to school are nut free.

Planners

All students are given planners that they are encouraged and expected to use. The $5.00 feefor planners can be paid online or handed in to me. Class time will be given daily for students to record reminders in their planners. Students will be asked in the morning to place any messages in their planners in the “mailbox” on my desk. 

Sd42 Parent Portal 

Please ensure you have visited the parent portal to complete the SD42 Policies Forms as soon as possible if you have not already.

P.E

Students will have P.E. with M. Tremblay on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 9:20 a.m. Students are expected to have appropriate clothing and footwear for the gym. Please ensure your child also has clean shoes that can be used for indoor use only. This may be the same shoes as their gym shoes or another pair of shoes. 

Supplies

I’d like to try a new system using binders with dividers for students to organize their content areas as it is easier to add and remove papers as needed. However, if duo tangs have already been purchased (as I realize these are on the supply list) students are more than welcome to use those instead. In addition to the binders or duo tangs which are to be kept at school, I encourage students to have a homework folder/portfolio pocket that they can keep in their backpacks to transport any work that needs to be completed at home.

Welcome back to another school year!! Students will be returning to last year's classroom for full day tomorrow. They will also return to our classroom Thursday morning and be transitioned into their new classes by recess. Students will be dismissed from their new classes on Thursday afternoon.

Info for CULTUS LAKE FIELD TRIP on THURSDAY, JUNE 23RD

Rain or Shine... weather forecast at this point indicated more of an overcast day.

Busses Depart School: 8:00am

Busses Depart Waterslides: 2:15pm (we will be calling students off of the waterslides just before 2:00)

* Any parents that are joining will need to pay and enter at the front entrance
* Any students traveling with parents must arrive before the busses and then come in with their classes. If they come late, they will have to pay at the front
* Any student that does not have a parent at the waterslides is expected to return on the bus

I recommend applying sunscreen at home before the field trip and then will encourage students to reapply as necessary throughout the day.
Please bring towel, change of dry clothes, hat, sunscreen, water, lunch and/or money for concession.

Bike Ride Tomorrow

Please come to school tomorrow with your bikes and helmets (and locks if you have one)
We will gather outside of the classroom tomorrow to organize groups with parent volunteers and discuss route.
Bring a pocket snack or small back back for ride. We will be back at the school for lunch.
We are hoping for nice weather but will be riding rain or shine.
